Mauritius The Maldives, meaning ‘garland of island’, lies across the direct sea route between Southern Arabia and the Far East, and travellers have been coming here for the last 4,000 years – each generation as enchanted as the last. In ancient times, its apt location drew many Arab travellers, Chinese traders, Dravidians and Aryans from Indian, as well as slaves from Africa, to stopover en route to Southeast Asia for replenishing water and food supplies for their journey. Language Languages spoken in the Maldives are Dhivehi and English, but One&Only Kanuhura has multilingual staff. Currency Local currency is the Maldivian Rufiyaa (MRf). Although all billings are made in US dollars, most other foreign currencies can be exchanged at the resort. Please note, however, that the Maldivian Rufiyaa cannot be exchanged for any other currencies at the resort. Electricity Electrical outlets in the villas are 220-240 volts. There is a 110/220 volt shaving point in the vanity area of the bathroom. Time zone Six hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT +6). Weather
The Maldives has a tropical climate, with two main seasons. December to
May is light and fairly dry. June to November occasionally brings brief
rain showers followed by sunshine. The temperature ranges from mid-20s
to mid-30s centigrade (77 to 95 degrees Fahrenheit) and is highest in
April and May.
