Bahamas A sliver of land five miles long and only a mile wide, Paradise Island is widely viewed as the most spectacular island in all of The Bahamas. When Swedish industrialist Axel Wenner-Gren first anchored his yacht off its pristine shores in 1939, he was enthralled by the unspoiled beauty of a place that locals called Hog Island. For more than two decades, he nurtured his private paradise, building a magnificent estate with intricately landscaped gardens inspired by those at the Chateau de Versailles. He christened it Shangri-La. Currency The Bahamian dollar (B$) is equal to the US dollar, and both are widely accepted. The resort also accepts travelers cheques, and currency exchange is available at the reception desk. Electricity The North American standard 120-volt, 60-Hertz alternating power required to power US and Canadian appliances such as electric razors, hairdryers, and other standard items found in guest rooms. European appliances require a power adapter, provided complimentary. Time zone Paradise Island, Bahamas, falls within the Eastern Standard Time (EST) zone, the same as Miami and New York City. It is five hours behind Greenwich Mean Time (GMT – 5). What to bring Attire

cover-ups and shoes are required in the lobby, restaurants and lounges
